How does an NMEA 2000 network actually go together?

Picture the backbone as a single trunk line running bow to stern. Every device, whether that is a display such as the XPLORE 9, a GPS antenna, or a heading sensor, connects to that trunk through a short drop cable and a T-connector rather than being spliced directly into the backbone. The two far ends of the backbone each carry a terminating resistor, and one single point on the whole network, not one per device, injects power from the battery.
